NorTech

NorTech is a regional nonprofit technology-based economic development organization with the unwavering purpose to invigorate growth within the region’s high-tech economy and broadcast its successes. The organization does this by helping to build and strengthen industries in technology areas that have great potential for creating significant economic impact, marshaling Northeast Ohio’s resources and by forging collaborations and connections between communities.

Regional innovation clusters are at the core of NorTech’s economic-diversification initiatives. To stimulate the development of these clusters, NorTech engages with federal and state government policy leaders to design growth strategies; builds relationships among cluster members to foster funding, research and business opportunities; and creates market-driven roadmaps with regional partners to define a clear vision for Northeast Ohio to generate economic growth and jobs.

NorTech, along with with JumpStart, Lorain County Community College and MAGNET, is also part of the Speed-to-Market Accelerator (STMA), a collaborative program to expedite the commercialization of high-potential products in Northeast Ohio's advanced energy and flexible electronics industry clusters. STMA draws on existing support, training and research resources in Northeast Ohio to offer a comprehensive set of services to entrepreneurs, including one-on-one counseling, market and workforce development services and manufacturing scale-up services.

And, in response to the growth of the region’s advanced energy and flexible electronics industry clusters, NorTech launched two separate acceleration programs in 2010. NorTech Energy Enterprise acts as the Northeast Ohio focal point for the advanced energy cluster, with the goal of creating jobs and attracting capital to the region. Among other things, it connects and convenes public and private partners; drives state and federal funding opportunities to the region; holds workshops and networking events and builds relationships among cluster members for funding, research, and business opportunities. The FlexMattersâ„  initiative serves a similar function for Northeast Ohio’s flexible electronics industry.
