Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI) is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing Ohio’s aerospace competitiveness by cultivating innovation and advocacy through engagement with global networks. OAI fosters research and technology development, and workforce preparedness. The organization is focused on bringing together the best companies, universities and government entities for collaborative research, technology development and commercialization projects.

Specifically, OAI works with aerospace-related federal research laboratories (Air Force Research Laboratory in Dayton and NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland), aerospace-related companies with operations in Ohio (e.g., Parker Hannifin, Lockheed, Timken) and Ohio universities with Ph.D. and research programs in aerospace-related fields. Entities outside of Ohio—world-class aerospace universities, companies such as Honeywell, Airbus EADS, Pratt & Whitney and Rolls-Royce, and federal agencies (e.g., other Air Force bases and NASA centers)—also collaborate with OAI and its partners.

Through its Small Business Network and Industry Membership programs, OAI offers small businesses access to potential strategic partners, federal funding opportunities and technical resources. In addition, OAI holds periodic networking events designed to connect entrepreneurs and small businesses with large companies and government funding agencies.

OAI also provides training and assistance in grant writing for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs offered by the Departments of Defense, Energy, Commerce and Homeland Security, as well as the National Science Foundation and NASA. Because OAI understands the programs and the requirements necessary to put together successful proposals, including the importance of addressing commercialization, it helps businesses identify and target relevant funding opportunities. In addition, OAI advises on partnering and teaming alignments required to submit competitive research and technology projects for the STTR and SBIR programs.
