The Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center (TBEIC)
The Tech Belt Energy Innovation Center (TBEIC) is designed to cultivate research and technical potential, with the overarching goal of developing and commercializing early stage cleantech, energy and natural resource technologies. The Warren, Ohio, mixed-used facility will serve both as a home to companies working their way to market, as well as a proving ground for technologies from universities, private corporations and government laboratories.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, the State of Ohio and a host of industry, civic and philanthropic supporters, the center fosters entrepreneurial activity and success. Its approach is three-pronged:
- Energy and Natural Resource Business Incubation and Acceleration Program
With the early 2014 completion of its LEED certified, state-of- the-art facility in Warren, Ohio, TBEIC will offer superb facilities and programs for entrepreneurs. These include challenging program of rigorous business practices, key business networks of potential customers, funders and partners, sophisticated equipment and facilities, and simplified access to academia, national laboratories and industry resources .
- Grid Connectivity Shared Resource Technology Center
Energy entrepreneurs creating grid-level products face unique technical challenges. TBEIC’s shared resource center provides an environment to develop power electronics, test grid-level storage devices and to evaluate grid compatibility and “readiness” early in the development process.
- Entrepreneurial Support, Regional Outreach and Education
In partnership with the JumpStart Entrepreneurial Network and the U.S. Department of Energy, TBEIC is providing valuable coaching, mentoring and business assistance to energy, cleantech and natural resources entrepreneurs across Northeast Ohio. TBEIC’s entrepreneurs-in-residence know the funding and support ecosystem in the region and have valuable connections to national energy resources and potential customers and partners.
Coming soon! TBEIC has begun construction on its new home in the historic and beautiful Warren town square. Utilizing historic tax credits with attention to preservation, the project involves renovation of the former Kresge Building to LEED standards, and will result will be a national center for energy entrepreneurship and a regional hub for entrepreneurial growth.
